Day 2 Christmas Eve, Stratford-upon-Avon

Beautiful at any time of year, Stratford is utterly magical when its medieval streets are decorated with sparkling lights at Christmas. Our first stop is William Shakespeare's birthplace, a low-ceilinged, half-timbered house. Inside you can enter the parlour, hall, workshop and bedchambers, all of which are furnished as they would have been back in the 16th century. We'll pause to enjoy a warming glass of mulled wine and a mince pie in this fabulous setting. Next, take a walk along the promenade next to the River Avon to see the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare is buried. We then make our way to Anne Hathaway's Cottage. This thatched farmhouse, where the young Shakespeare courted his future bride, contains many original items of furniture.
After some time for lunch, we then explore Stratford-upon-Avon in the company of a Local Guide.
If you'd like to attend midnight mass tonight, you'll be spoilt for choice as there are plenty of lovely churches in the town.
