HVAR

Considered as Croatia’s most glamorous island, Hvar blends old-world elegance with breezy café culture and a lively harbour scene.

In Hvar Town, a marble-paved waterfront curls around a marina of bobbing yachts and soft-hued façades, all watched over by the hilltop Fortica (Španjola), a 16th-century stronghold that crowns the skyline.

Wander the 13th-century town walls and narrow stone lanes to find shaded squares, Venetian-era palazzi and tiny chapels tucked between chic boutiques and gelaterias.

Beyond the town, the island opens out to fragrant lavender fields, ancient olive groves and vineyards ripening on the sun-kissed slopes, with pebble coves and pine-backed beaches never far away.

It’s an island made for taking it easy: sip a coffee by the promenade, swim in clear bays, and enjoy a glass of local white wine by the harbour. Elegant yet easy-going, Hvar delivers the best of Dalmatia in one irresistible package.

Experience the charm of Hvar Town during a walking tour on Just You’s Croatia cruise holiday.

BRAC

A slightly larger island than Hvar, Brac is home to Zlatni Rat, a tongue-shaped pebble beach that reaches into turquoise water at Bol. Framed by pine groves and a mountain backdrop, it’s one of Europe’s most photographed beaches.

Yet Brac is far more than a single showstopper. Venture inland, and you’ll find an island shaped by stone and tradition. Its fine white limestone, quarried for centuries, has been used to build many of the finest churches, palaces and harbour towns in the region. Olive groves and quiet villages add a gentler, everyday charm.

On Just You’s Croatian Island Explorer, you’ll sail from Hvar to the pretty village of Milna on Brač before heading up to Vidova Gora, the highest peak on any Adriatic island, for sweeping views over Bol, Zlatni Rat and the Hvar Channel.

A peaceful street scene in Pag - Croatian islands

PAG

Pag is a favourite with food lovers and photographers alike. Its pale, rocky landscape looks almost lunar, set against wide blue skies and a bright, glassy sea.

The island is famous for its paski sir (‘Pag cheese’), made from the milk of sheep that graze on salty, wild herb-covered pastures. You’ll also see the island’s long salt-making tradition in the shallow pans that shimmer beside the sea. Pag lace is another highlight, handmade by skilled artisans with techniques passed down through generations.

Pag has no shortage of scenic views, walking routes and museums to explore. As the landscape changes from windswept ridges to quiet bays, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the island with your fellow travellers.

ELAFITI ISLANDS

A short ferry ride from Dubrovnik, the Elafiti Islands promise clear, shimmering water, car-free lanes and a slower, more peaceful pace. Sandy coves are rare in Dalmatia, but you’ll find them here, perfect for a leisurely swim and a lazy afternoon by the sea.

Lopud’s waterfront town is a pleasure to explore, lined with seafront cafés and historic stone houses. You could also visit the peaceful Franciscan monastery, where you’ll find expansive views and cool courtyards that are perfect for a quiet break. If time allows, you could walk to Šunj Bay and its wide sandy beach.

On Šipan, you’ll see charming Renaissance villas tucked amongst citrus and olive groves, and the island’s calm coves are ideal for swimming or shoreline strolls.

OPTIONAL ISLAND EXCURSIONS

If you’d like to see more of Croatia’s stunning coast, there are plenty of options.

On Just You’s Croatia’s Istrian Coast guided tour, you could take an optional boat trip to Cres and Krk. These two northern islands have a distinctly different feel from Dalmatia in the south. Here, you’ll discover stone-built old towns and a more Alpine palette of craggy coastlines and forests.

Cres’s coastline is dotted with quiet coves, and narrow lanes wind between the buildings in Cres Town. Look for griffon vultures wheeling over the limestone cliffs near Beli and the beautiful terracotta roof tiles on the buildings.

Krk is Croatia’s largest island, but its waterside coffee spots and Krk Town’s old quarter feel pleasantly intimate. Strolls around the island reward visitors with views of white beaches melting into turquoise waters.

WHEN TO VISIT CROATIA’S ISLANDS

Just You tours explore Croatia’s islands from spring through to autumn, when the coastline really shines. Wildflowers brighten the hillsides, the sea warms up, and harbour towns feel welcoming and lively.

From April to June, you’ll find comfortable temperatures for walking and sightseeing, with spring flowers on the trails. Early summer brings longer days and inviting seas for a first dip or a scenic boat ride.

In July and August, the islands are at their liveliest, with long, sunny days and late-opening cafés. It’s a good time to enjoy the local atmosphere and perhaps a chilled glass of Plavac Mali.

By September and October, the crowds ease, but the sea often stays warm, making it a good time for relaxed swims, quiet moments and enjoying Croatia’s famous sunsets.
