Stax Music Academy
Just You Cares is pleased to introduce a new addition to the America's Music Heritage tour from September 2024, with a visit to the Stax Museum - part of the Soulsville Foundation which supports young students of the Stax Music Academy.
This community tourism experience includes a visit to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, a museum dedicated to the story and sound of American Soul.
Run as part of the Soulsville Foundation, the museum is home to interactive exhibits and over 2,000 items of memorabilia for you to discover. Just You travellers will also be treated to an exclusive live performance from graduates of the Stax Music Academy followed by a chance to meet them and learn about the impact it has had on their lives.
When you book America's Music Heritage, you are supporting both the Soulsville Foundation and the Stax Music Academy.
Since 2000, the academy has been serving at-risk youth across Memphis with mentoring support, high-quality education programmes, and performance opportunities, backed by the rich legacy of Stax Records which has been home to artists including Aretha Franklin and Booker T.
The impact of tourism
Together the foundation and the academy are improving the community of Memphis, seeking to change people's lives through music. Thousands of youths have already benefitted from the project, which:
- Inspires young people with an education focused on academic, leadership, cognitive and performance skills to prepare them for adulthood
- Encourages students to be socially conscious and responsible artists
- Preserves the rich legacy of Stax Records
