Day 1 UK - Munich
Today you will fly to Munich and we will transfer you to your hotel in the Ammergau region of Germany.
Day 2 Oberammergau & the Passion Play
After breakfast, we'll head to the village of Oberammergau and you'll have the morning to explore with your travelling companions. You can discover more about the Passion Play and the region's history of wood carving at the Oberammergau Museum. Lunch will be served prior to the performance, which starts at 2.30pm, and we will enjoy dinner during the three-hour interval. The Passion Play will finish at around 10.30pm, when we will take you back to your hotel.
Day 3 Innsbruck
Today, we'll take to the road and drive to the Tyrol, our base for the remainder of our holiday. On the way, we'll stop at Innsbruck for a treasure hunt. We'll discover the culinary and cultural highlights of the city in a very special way and, during the treasure hunt, a Local Guide will point out interesting sights. The Golden Roof is perhaps the most famous landmark. Sitting above a balcony, it was created for Emperor Maximilian I at the beginning of the 16th century, and still bears 2,657 original fire-gilded copper tiles. After free time to make your own discoveries, we'll continue to our hotel, where we'll gather for a welcome drink and dinner.
Day 4 Lake Achen & the Achensee Cog Railway
After a leisurely morning, we'll travel down the Inn Valley to Jenbach and board the Achensee Cog Railway, which dates back to 1889. The steam engines operating on the railway are some of the oldest in the world used for public transport. We'll admire views of the Inn Valley as the train winds its way up the mountain for around seven kilometres, finally reaching Lake Achen. This is the largest Alpine lake in the Tyrol, and we'll take to the water for a scenic cruise before enjoying a stroll along the shore.Meals included: B,D
Day 5 Vipiteno
Today, we'll travel across the border to Vipiteno, Italy's most northerly town. With its magnificent town houses, quaint shopping streets and medieval squares, it's a charming place to explore. The 46-metre-high Tower of the Twelve divides the Old and the New Towns.
This evening, after dinner, we'll get together and head out on a torch-lit walk.
Day 6 The Dolomites
The Dolomites, in the northern Italian Alps, feature some of the most stunning mountain landscapes on the planet, and we're going to explore them on a full-day tour. We'll begin by making a stop in the village of Kastelruth en route to Ortisei, a town famous for its ornate woodcarvings. Enjoy some time at leisure here, perhaps head to one of the restaurants specialising in South Tyrolean cuisine or browse the great range of shops. As our journey continues, we'll pass the mighty Langkofel mountains and then wind our way up to Sellajoch, where we'll stop to take in the breathtaking views. We'll continue over the 2,240-metre-high Sella Pass, and then descend through the scenic Val di Fassa to Canazei. The final part of our tour takes us through the emerald-green Val di Fiemme, as we make our way back to our hotel.
Day 7 Bolzano
Today's excursion takes us to the historic city of Bolzano, famed for its delightful old shopping arcades. Enjoy some free time to explore with your travelling companions before we continue our journey along the South Tyrolean wine road to Lake Caldaro. Surrounded by vineyards, this is the warmest lake in the Alps, perfect if you fancy a dip!Meals included: B,D
