A warm welcome to Janet

Say hello to our Just You Brand Ambassador, Janet Ellis. Broadcaster, author and actress, Janet joins us to explore the world of Just You as a solo traveller.

No stranger to travelling for both work and leisure, we’re delighted to have Janet on board to see the world through a solo travel lens having lost her husband John in 2020. Janet collected plenty of fond memories while exploring the world with John, including many from one of their favourite places, Japan:

With two tours already ticked off Janet’s solo travel list: South Africa and New York City, we were keen to discover what has been her favourite thing about touring with Just You…

“I love getting to know people, and the opportunity to holiday with such a variety of people has been an absolute pleasure. Sharing our motivations to start solo travelling which can often be similar reasons to your own, to revelling in those wow moments, there’s something surreal and special in being brought together to explore the world.”

South Africa

Cultural encounters, wonderful wines, and of course the Big Five, South Africa certainly offered up plenty of surprise and delight for Janet’s adventure.

"Being my first Just You tour, as it was for some other folks on the trip, it’s difficult to know what to expect, what will our Holiday Director and Guides be like, what will our cohort of travellers be like – will we get on? Will I feel safe? So many questions!

"But it’s wonderful to see that within a couple of days we really do find our feet, and you do find yourself drawn into little friendship groups which is fantastic."

New York

Turns out the iconic sights of the Big Apple can easily be covered in just four days, as Janet encountered.

"I chose this tour as I was curious to see if you can really fit in all these incredible places in just four days, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

"We didn’t allow ourselves much downtime, but one of the reasons I think this short break worked so well was because our hotel, the Marriott Marquis, was perfectly located right in the middle of Times Square. It was wonderful to be in the thick of the atmosphere of flashing billboards and being so close to Broadway too, made it much easier to go out in the evening for a little entertainment."

Although having visited NYC for work in the past, this was Janet’s inaugural visit as a leisure traveller... Click here to read more.
