Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Established in 1987, the multi-award-winning Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a natural sanctuary of more than 3 square kilometres for giant pandas, red pandas and other endangered wildlife. Just You travellers can spend time watching and learning about these captivating creatures as part of our 16-day Inspirational China and Yangtze Cruise tour.

Conservation of endangered animals like the giant panda – considered China’s national treasure – is a long-term and challenging social undertaking, which is why we have whole-heartedly committed to supporting the Research Base through our Just You Cares initiative.

The impact of tourism

Scientific research into feeding, management and reproduction has enabled the centre to conserve its population of more than 260 giant pandas. Over the last three decades, research breakthroughs have been made possible through donations and government funding. Innovative research has addressed key technical problems in feeding, management, disease control and reproduction.

Ticket sales purchased by visitors help foster continued research into their protection, and during your time here you will learn more about the all‑important work carried out to increase their numbers.
