Day 1 UK - Munich
After flying to Munich, we will transfer you to your hotel in the Ammergau region of Germany.Meals included: D
Day 2 Oberammergau & the Passion Play
After breakfast, we'll head to the village of Oberammergau and you'll have the morning to explore. You can discover more about the Passion Play and the region's history of wood carving at the Oberammergau Museum. Lunch will be served prior to the performance, which starts at 2.30pm, and we will enjoy dinner during the three-hour interval. The Passion Play will finish at around 10.30pm when we will take you back to your hotel.Meals included: B,L,D
Day 3 Innsbruck
Today, we'll take to the road and drive to Söll, our base for the remainder of our holiday. On the way, we'll stop at Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital, for a tour. In the company of a Local Guide, we'll see the highlights of this charming Alpine city, including the famous Golden Roof. Sitting above a balcony, it was created for Emperor Maximilian I at the beginning of the 16th century, and still bears 2,657 original fire-gilded copper tiles. After free time to make your own discoveries, we'll continue on to Söll, and after checking into the hotel we'll gather for a welcome drink.
Day 4 Wilder Kaiser & Kitzbühel
Our sightseeing today takes us on a scenic trip around the Wilder Kaiser, or Wild Emperor Mountains, and the Kitzbühel Alps. We'll travel through the towns of Walchsee and St Johann in the Tyrol, before arriving in the famous Alpine resort of Kitzbühel. Spend some time wandering through the charming cobblestone streets before relaxing on a horse-drawn carriage ride. Later, we'll head to the medieval town of Kufstein, which lies on the border with Bavaria. The mighty Kufstein Fortress overlooks the town from a hilltop position and houses the Heroes' Organ, the largest free-standing organ in the world.
Tonight, we'll get together for dinner and a traditional Tyrolean folklore evening.
Day 5 Rattenburg & Alpbach
This morning, we're heading to the medieval walled town of Rattenberg. Known for its glass works, we'll visit a showroom to see the artisans at work and have a go at blowing our own glass bowls. Afterwards, we'll visit Alpbach - a delightful little place which, with its traditional architecture and floral displays, has been voted the most beautiful village in Austria.
Day 6 Salzburg
Our sights are set on Salzburg today, where a 'Sound of Music' city tour will introduce us to the movie's historic sights and filming locations. Leopoldskron Palace, Frohnburg Palace and the impressive Mirabell Palace Gardens are just some of the highlights we'll see. We'll enjoy lunch together in a restaurant. Afterwards you'll be free to explore with your travelling companions before we return to the hotel.
Day 7 Lake Achen
You've some time to relax this morning before we travel to Lake Achen, where the views of the Inn and Ziller valleys are simply breathtaking. There's the option of a scenic boat cruise on the lake if you wish, and afterwards we're going to the Kramsach Farmhouse Museum. There are 14 farmhouses at this open-air museum, along with an array of other buildings including a mill, a blacksmith and a chapel. Whilst we're here, you'll have a chance to bake your own bread and then we're going to the Tyrolean Schnapps Museum in Pill. We'll take a tour and learn how this traditional Austrian drink is distilled, before enjoying a tasting at the end of our visit.
Day 8 Munich - UK
After breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight back to the UK.Meals included: B
