Days 1 & 2 Amman
After breakfast we will set off to explore the attractive Middle Eastern city of Amman. On a walking tour, we will visit the city's main historic sites which include the ancient Bronze Age citadel and the Roman theatre. After a look inside the bright blue-domed King Abdullah Mosque, we will experience the atmosphere in the city's authentic vegetable market, the Souk el-Khodra. In the evening our group will head out together for dinner and enjoy a welcome drink.
Day 3 Amman - Petra
Today we take the King's Highway to Petra. As we travel along this ancient route, we will see some of Jordan's most dramatic scenery and glimpse rural life as we pass through small towns and villages. Stopping in Madaba, the 'City of Mosaics', we will have the chance to see the astonishing Madaba Mosaic map, the oldest map of the Middle East on Earth. After spending some time learning how mosaics are made, we will pause at Mount Nebo. Said to be where Moses saw the Promised Land, this is a great opportunity to take photographs of the sweeping desert views. After arriving in Petra we will have dinner in a restaurant and check into our hotel, which is designed like a traditional Arabic village.
Day 4 Petra
Don't forget your camera today as we visit Petra, an ancient city filled with incredible rock-cut buildings, and one of the Middle East's bucket-list destinations. We will experience a jaw-dropping moment as we enter Petra through the Siq. After taking in the perfectly preserved Treasury building, we will meet a Local Guide who will show us some of Petra's other highlights including the Royal Tombs. There will be plenty of time to explore before we head back to the hotel for dinner. In the evening, there will be a chance to see Petra magically lit by candles on our optional excursion.
Day 5 New Year's Eve, Petra - Wadi Rum - Dead Sea
Make sure you've got some energy left as today is packed full of highlights. In the morning, we will head off the beaten path to Siq al-Barid or 'Little Petra', a city carved out of the sandstone cliffs. Lunch will be provided by the Ammarin tribe in their Bedouin tented camp, where we will learn about their traditions and lifestyle. Then, we will head into windswept Wadi Rum desert, a valley of red dunes and rock formations made famous in the film Lawrence of Arabia. Once we arrive at our Dead Sea hotel there will be time for a rest before we sit down to a gala dinner and see in the New Year together.
Day 6 New Year's Day, at Leisure
Today is New Year's Day and you can spend it as you wish. You might want to enjoy a luxurious spa treatment, relax on the private beach or have a float in the Dead Sea, whose waters and mud are said to have healing properties. Or, there is the option to join us on a trip to the River Jordan, where we will visit the location where Jesus is said to have been baptised.
Day 7 Dead Sea - Jesrah - Amman
On our way back to Amman today, we will stop at Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. On a guided tour we will see the collonaded streets, temples and theatres, as well as the hippodrome, which once held 15,000 spectators. In the evening, our group will come together for the final time for a special dining experience at Kan Zamman, a restaurant in a charming restored Ottoman village.
Day 8 Amman - UK
Today you will check out of your hotel and make your way back to the UK.
