Day 1 Hinckley
Make your own way to your hotel, at Hinckley in Leicestershire. After you've checked in and made yourself at home, meet your fellow travellers for a welcome drink in the bar before dinner.
Day 2 New Year's Eve, Market Bosworth & Coombe Abbey
After breakfast, we're going to head into rural Leicestershire and take a ride on the Battlefield Line heritage railway. It first opened in 1873 and we'll be transported back in time as we meander past small stations along the single-track line. Our next stop is in the historic little town of Market Bosworth. Located close to Bosworth Field, the site of the decisive battle of the 'War of the Roses', it is claimed that Richard III spent the night here before the battle. Spend some time exploring the market square and streets lined with thatched cottages and Georgian houses, before stopping for lunch if you wish.
We'll return to our hotel in the early afternoon to prepare for the highlight of our holiday – a glamorous New Year's Eve celebration at Coombe Abbey. This beautiful hotel is set within 500 acres of parkland and has a rich and fascinating history. Originally an influential monastery, it was once the home of royalty and was linked to the Gunpowder Plot. Tonight's event takes place in the Abbey's magnificent Marquee and is based around a Casino Royale theme and begins with a glass of Champagne and canapés on arrival. We'll then enjoy a six-course meal together and will see in the New Year in style with live entertainment, a disco, casino tables and a firework display at midnight.
