Your itinerary

Depart on your flight to Moscow today, where you'll get to know your group of travelling companions over drinks and dinner at your hotel this evening.

After breakfast, we'll enjoy a tour of Moscow, a city which boasts incredible architecture and a fascinating history. In the afternoon, our included excursion takes us to The Kremlin, a fortress which was a potent symbol of two mighty imperial cultures – medieval Muscovy and the Soviet Union. Admire some of the magnificent cathedrals and palaces here before a tour of the Armoury Museum. Contained within the walls of the citadel, the collection here fills nine halls and includes exquisite jewellery, armour, weaponry, imperial clothing and many other treasures.

The epic Battle of Borodino, one of the biggest clashes in military history, was immortalised in Tolstoy's classic book War and Peace. Today we'll view the Borodino Battle Museum Panorama – a painting which stands 15 metres high and stretches 115 feet, depicting the decisive moment of this battle. There are more than 800 other artefacts on display in the museum and we'll see as many as we can on our audio-visual tour.
Our explorations continue this afternoon as we head to Khamovniki to visit the Leo Tolstoy Museum Estate, one of Russia's oldest literary museums. The writer lived in this house from 1882 to 1901, penning many famous works here. We'll also see the salon where Rachmaninov and Rimsky-Korsakov played piano.

This morning we board the Sapsan fast train for the 4-hour journey to St Petersburg, where we'll stay for the next four nights in a 5-star hotel housed in the former Eliseev Palace, in the heart of the city.

St Petersburg, formerly Leningrad, was the capital of Russia until the October Revolution in 1917 and is an exciting mix of historical and modern. On our city tour we'll discover some of its spectacular buildings including the Peter and Paul Fortress, the historic core of the city. The cathedral is the resting place of all Russian Emperors and Empresses from Peter the Great to Nicholas II.
An afternoon visit to the Russian Vodka Museum tells us all we need to know about how Russia's favourite spirit has been produced and consumed over the centuries. After our tour we'll taste the country's national drink in style, with pancakes and red caviar.

We'll start today with a visit to the Fabergé Museum, which is dedicated to the creator of the famous and beautifully ornate Fabergé eggs. Next, we'll enjoy a tour of the State Hermitage Museum. Founded in 1764 this is a wonderful showcase of wealth, art and culture with more than three million items housed here.

Today we'll visit the magnificent Catherine Palace in Pushkin. As we explore the palace and gardens we'll get a glimpse of the Russian high life and an insight into the imperial history of this incredible country.
Enjoy an afternoon at leisure, to explore St Petersburg further in the company of your travelling companions. This evening we'll gather at a restaurant for a farewell dinner.

We'll transfer to the airport today for our flight back to the UK.

Russian VISA

Russian VissaWhere possible we arrange visas for our customers, but for some countries, including Russia, this is not possible as visa
applications must be arranged in person at a Russian Embassy.

However, we’ll still help in every way we can:

We’ll send you a visa application form approximately 10 weeks prior to departure.

Once you’ve completed your visa application you send it, alongside a photocopy of your passport, to our appointed visa service agents, Russia House, who will carefully check it to make sure it’s filled in correctly.

They’ll then send you a visa support letter, give you advice on any amendments you need to make to your application and outline exactly what you need to do next. You can also complete your application form online. If you choose this method, you can print an extra copy and send it to Russia House for checking. For advice on completing the form online please visit
www.therussiahouse.co.uk

Finally, you and anyone else travelling with you to Russia will then have to visit the Russian Embassy that’s most convenient for you, in London, Manchester or Edinburgh. Here, your fingerprints will be taken and payment for your visa can be made by cash, credit or debit card.

Russian Consulate Fee for visa - £88.40 per person
Passport Return Fee - £9.80 per person
(Visa and postage fee are paid directly to the consulate and subject to change).
Visa checking service - £20.00
(Visa checking service is paid directly to our visa service agents).

If you or any member of your party is not a British Citizen or holds a non-British passport, you must check passport and visa requirements with the Embassy or Consulate of the country to or through which you are intending to travel.
