Today you’ll travel from London St Pancras International to Paris, with an onward coach journey to your hotel.

Get to know your fellow travellers over a drink and dinner this evening. During your stay your Tour Manager will arrange a game of boules and a glass of beer or wine one evening in the grounds of your hotel.
Château de Chantilly is one of France’s finest 18th century buildings. Located in the heart of a large forest on the outskirts of Paris, it comprises two attached buildings, the Petit Château and the Grand Château, which was destroyed in the French Revolution and rebuilt in the 1870s.

One of the owners of the château was in exile in London for more than 20 years, and during that time, he built up an art collection which he brought here on his return. In the gallery, the Musée Condé, discover one of the best art collections in France with a particularly fine selection of French paintings, as well as an impressive library.

Step inside for a tour and enjoy a stroll around the magnificent gardens on today’s optional three-quarter-day excursion.

With its exceptional architecture and delicious gastronomic delights, Paris is a seductive city. Sit back and enjoy the sights as they are wonderfully illuminated on an optional coach tour of the French capital this evening, with dinner included.
It is said that the history of France is written in her gardens, and this is reflected in the many different horticultural styles found across the country.

Particularly delightful are the gardens of the famous French Impressionist Claude Monet in Giverny. He planted and painted here from 1883 until his death in 1926, gaining inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounded him.

Explore the artist’s flower garden, Clos Normand, as well as the Japanese-style water garden. These two areas are a beautiful contrast to one another, yet are equally wonderful to explore.

The most famous feature is the lily pond, from which Monet gained so much inspiration, and his series of water lily paintings is revered throughout the world.

As you stroll through the enchanting gardens don’t miss the exquisite Japanese bridge which is covered with wisteria - it too is depicted in many of Monet’s greatest works of art.

In the evening we will gather as a group to enjoy a farewell drink.
Today we will return to the UK by Eurostar to St Pancras International.

Chateau de Chantilly

Chateau de Chantilly

from £45

Chateau de Chantilly is located in one of the largest forests near Paris. It is a beautiful structure, graceful and romantic, surrounded by water and looking out over a formal arrangement of pools and pathways designed by the famous French 17th Century royal gardener, Le Notre who also designed the gardens at Versailles. Of all the gardens designed by Le Notre, Chantilly has without doubt the largest expanse of water. The grounds cover 115 hectares of manicured lawns, ponds, farms and the Grand Stables. The town is associated mainly with horses and is well known as the location of the largest training centre for race horses and home to Europe’s biggest Polo club. The Chateau de Chantilly and the whole estate has been built up by different owners since the middle ages from the late 1300’s to the end of the 1800’s and was always passed on by inheritance to different branches of the same family and was never sold. Unfortunately when the Duc d’Aumale inherited Chantilly he had no heir to pass it on to as he had already lost his sons, so in his will it was left to the Institute of France and is now home to one of the finest museums of historical paintings in France and is second only to the Louvre in Paris. It is not difficult to imagine the lavish lifestyle of its previous inhabitants who have entertained in the formal gardens and slept in the silk draped boudoirs. It is a fascinating place, stroll around the magnificent gardens, visit the Chateau and Great Stables plus enjoy lunch in one of the little restaurants not forgetting to sample the Crème de Chantilly which was invented by the famous Chef Vatel at Chantilly who hosted a banquet for 2000 people in honour of King Louis XIV.
