Your itinerary

Fly to Toronto.

Toronto is Canada's largest city and one of the world's most culturally diverse. Here you'll find high-profile businesses, superb museums and galleries, countless high-end restaurants, sophisticated bars and a commercial centre dominated by the 1,815ft high CN Tower, the world's tallest freestanding structure. Discover the city on an included tour before gathering with your travelling companions for a welcome dinner.

The mighty Niagara Falls is one of the greatest sights in the New World. For the most dramatic view, take a thrilling optional helicopter flight over the thundering waters during our included excursion. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a picturesque town often referred to as the loveliest town in Ontario, and we'll stop here on the way back to our hotel.

Following the Maple Leaf Trail we'll witness spectacular scenery as we pass along the Thousand Islands Parkway en route to Ottawa. We'll pause at Rockport for an included cruise around the Thousand Islands, where we'll see fairytale castles, lighthouses and mansions. Ottawa is Canada's elegant and historic capital city. Situated on the banks of the Rideau Canal, its skyline is crowned by the magnificent Parliament Buildings and the grand Château Laurier hotel. An included tour will take us to highlights including Parliament Hill, the National War Memorial, Confederation Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and ByWard Market, where you'll find some of the city's best pubs and restaurants.

Canada's second city, Montreal in the French-speaking region of Quebec, sits on an island at the junction of the St Lawrence and Ottawa rivers. On arrival, our half-day tour will take in Mount Royal, the three-peaked hill which gives the city its name, the historic district of Old Montreal, with its cobbled streets and 17th century buildings, the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral and the St Lawrence Seaway – a series of locks, canals and channels along the river that allows ships to pass from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. There are many fine restaurants and open-air cafés here so perhaps join your travelling companions for a relaxed meal.

Quebec City is the only walled city in North America. Standing on the St Lawrence River, it is a metropolis of winding cobbled streets, ancient churches, Norman-style houses, stone buildings, public squares and horsedrawn calèches. We include a full-day tour, taking in famous sights including the Cathedral, Château Frontenac, the Basilica, and the Plains of Abraham – the scene of the decisive battle in 1759 between the French and the English for control of Canada.

Leaving Montreal we'll cross the border into the USA. Our drive takes us through Vermont's gentle countryside for our first glimpse of New England's famous fall colours.

The smallest state capital in the USA, Montpellier is home to Morse Maple Farm. A visit gives us the chance to see how this sticky syrup is produced. En route to North Conway we'll drive through Franconia Notch State Park, located in the heart of the stunning White Mountain National Forest.

The Kancamagus Highway is a scenic 34-mile stretch of road that's one of the best fall foliage viewing areas in the USA. On our leisurely drive to Boston we'll head through the White Mountain National Forest where our reward will be spectacular views of the White Mountains, the Swift River, Sabbaday Falls and, of course, the kaleidoscope of colour that epitomises New England in the fall. Your hotel in Boston is ideally located downtown, within walking distance of many attractions, so why not explore with your travelling companions.

The principal city of New England, Boston boasts a charming old quarter, where steep cobbled streets contrast delightfully with the city's modern skyscrapers. Located at the easternmost point of Massachusetts is beautiful Cape Cod. Why not join us on an optional tour here today, which also includes a visit to Plymouth, where America's founding fathers first set foot in the New World. This evening, gather with your travelling companions for a farewell drink.

On an included morning tour of Boston we will follow parts of the famous Freedom Trail and visit the Granary Burial Ground. We also visit Beacon Hill, Quincy Market and Cambridge - home of Harvard University. Enjoy time at leisure before our flight back to the UK.

Arrive back in the UK.

Day 11 Boston to New York

You'll travel by rail to New York this afternoon and check in to your hotel for a four night stay.

Day 12 New York

The heart of this exciting city is Times Square, where neon lights illuminate every structure, flashing newsreels encircle tower blocks and the latest advertising campaigns and movie scores beam from interactive billboards. You will have some time at leisure today before a welcome drink this evening gives you the perfect opportunity to get to know your travelling companions.

Day 13 New York

Exciting sights, iconic structures, fascinating museums and famous districts are exactly what New York is all about, and our half-day tour is a great way to get to grips with what's on offer. A Local Guide will ensure you see all the hotspots, including the Empire State Building, Wall Street, Broadway, the site of the World Trade Center, the Chrysler Building and Chinatown.

During time at leisure why not head to Grand Central Station to admire its huge central concourse and beautiful ceiling. The oldest establishment within the station is a wonderful oyster bar located in the lower arches – the perfect place for a spot of lunch perhaps. Later, why not join an optional helicopter flight over the Big Apple – it's a truly thrilling sightseeing experience.

We offer a further optional tour this evening giving you the chance to discover New York by night. You'll return to the Empire State building and head to the top of its 102 floors to enjoy fantastic views of the city beautifully illuminated against the night sky.

Day 14 New York

Central Park is a six-mile emerald-green haven known as New York's 'backyard'. To reach it today we'll hop on the Subway, which is something you must experience when in this thrilling city!

On arrival, we'll meet our knowledgeable Local Guide who will tell us all about the history, planning and development of this vast expanse of greenery. Depending on the route we take, highlights may include the statues of Alice in Wonderland and Hans Christian Andersen, and Strawberry Fields. This section of the park is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon, and here you can sit and enjoy the Imagine mosaic beneath the shade of American elms. The world-famous singer, songwriter and peace activist was murdered outside his apartment in the Dakota building, opposite the park.

We'll stop for a break at the park's Boathouse Restaurant, where you can take in lovely views over the lake as you enjoy something to eat or drink. Next we'll pass through the entrance to Central Park Zoo, where if we time it just right we'll see the sea lions at feeding time and the Delacorte Musical Clock in action at noon!

We then leave the park and head out on to Fifth Avenue, the world's most expensive shopping street. Why not step inside the famous jewellery store Tiffany & Co, or explore the renowned department store Saks Fifth Avenue. A whole host of other attractions are within reach, such as MOMA - the Museum of Modern Art - and the Rockefeller Center, just ask your Tour Manager to point you in the right direction.

Broadway is second to none when it comes to top-class shows and musicals and there are always great deals on late tickets. Maybe join with your group to see a show tonight and create a great finalé to your day.

Day 15

You've explored Manhattan on foot, and if you joined the optional helicopter flight, by air, so now let's take in the views from the water. Today's excursion is a fabulous Bateaux New York lunch cruise with great food and live piano music.

During this two-hour cruise we'll see many famous landmarks, including the Empire State Building, Battery Park and One World Trade Center. We'll pass under the famous bridges of Brooklyn and Williamsburg and circle the incredible Statue of Liberty – this symbol of freedom and democracy is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the world. We'll also see Ellis Island, the gateway to the US for more than 12 million immigrants from 1892 to 1954.

Later, you will transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK, arriving on day 16.
