Your itinerary

Today you'll fly to Perth, arriving in the early hours of day 3.

You will have plenty of time to adjust after your flight with a further three-night stay in Perth. This lovely city has a compact centre and an inviting waterfront area. Along with its neighbouring port of Fremantle, it is one of the most envied locations in the world in which to live. It boasts golden beaches, superb restaurants, lush green parks, the broad expanse of the Swan River and a fantastic climate. Experience Perth's highlights on our included sightseeing tour today. This evening, get to know your travelling companions better over a drink and dinner.

Perth has so much to offer and you can get out and about to discover its delights just as you wish today. It's one of the world's most envied locations in which to live, with lush parks, excellent restaurants, the stunning Swan River and a lovely warm climate.
As an alternative, you might choose to join an optional tour of the lively port city of Fremantle, which you'll reach via a cruise on the Swan River. During free time, coffee-lovers should head to Cappuccino Strip, lined with open-air coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. Other highlights include the fishing boat harbour, a host of interesting museums and the historic Fremantle markets - more than 150 stalls selling everything from local delicacies to jewellery. We'll head back to the hotel by road.

If you're an animal-lover, today's optional excursion is for you! You've the chance to see some of Australia's native creatures at Yanchep National Park. Kangaroos roam freely here, so you can get really close to the country's most famous animal, and you might also spot koalas. You'll then continue to the Aquarium of Western Australia, where among other highlights you can stroke stingray in the 'petting pond'.
There's free time for lunch before you head to the Swan Valley Winery for a wine-tasting experience.

We'll fly to Alice Springs, the capital of Australia's red centre today. This intriguing town is a hub of life in the vast desert of the Northern Territory. Alice is known for many things, the most famous of which, Uluru, we will visit on day 8.
This evening you might be tempted to join an optional bush barbecue - an authentic experience that really sums up the spirit of the Australian Outback. The fun starts at sunset as we take to the road to try to spot kangaroos. Before you eat you can try your hand at boomerang throwing, and afterwards you can indulge in a spot of star-gazing.

In an area so remote, some of the facilities that many of us take for granted are not readily available. The Flying Doctor Base and famous School of the Air, vital amenities for so many families living on farms and ranches in the Australian bush, are highlights of our tour as well as the old Telegraph Station.
This afternoon you can opt to join an excursion to the Western MacDonnell Ranges. First you'll visit Simpsons Gap, a stunning gorge where water flows through a small gap in the mountains. This area is sacred to the Aboriginal people, as is our next stop, the Standley Chasm. Here, we'll take a stroll amongst sheer walls of red rock, which are simply breathtaking.

We take to the road today and make a stop at a camel farm, where there's the chance to take a camel ride.
Our destination is Ayers Rock, officially referred to as Uluru by native Aboriginal people, which is situated in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. The huge sandstone monolith that rises from the red dirt of the desert floor is a majestic sight and one of the world's most treasured natural wonders. It is two miles long, 1,000ft high and six miles around the base. It changes colour dramatically with the light and is a wondrous sight at any time of day, but even more so at sunrise and sunset, when its colours change dramatically. We will have the chance to admire Uluru at both of these magical times.
This evening you'll have a chance to enjoy a 'Sounds of Silence' dinner at a secluded spot in the middle of the desert. You'll eat under a star-strewn sky and sip champagne as the sun sets at Uluru and the Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas.

We will visit Uluru as the sun rises this morning. We will also have the very special opportunity to step into some of the caves in the base of the rock and admire the fascinating Aboriginal art that graces the walls. Off in the distance you will spot the mysterious Kata Tjuta, a range of 36 spectacular rock domes. Later we will fly to Cairns.

The Great Barrier Reef is variously described as the world's largest living thing and the eighth wonder of the world. It is a stupendous 1,400-mile wonderland of breathtakingly beautiful coral and colourful marine life, studded with unspoilt tropical islands. Today we include a trip by catamaran to the Outer Great Barrier Reef. You will have the chance to snorkel, visit an underwater observatory, take a cruise in a semi-submersible or simply admire your picture-perfect surroundings.

Cairns enjoys an idyllic location between the ocean and lush tropics. It is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the great climate and sunshine that Australia is so famous for. Maybe you'll choose to take a ride on the Kuranda Railway. Widely regarded as one of the world's most spectacular rail journeys, the track burrows through 15 tunnels and traverses 40 bridges as it clings to the rock face.

If you want to get out in the great outdoors, come with us on an optional trip to Daintree Rainforest. This ecologically unique tropical forest is home to an extensive range of flora and fauna, and you'll head off on a cruise with an expert guide on the lookout for crocodiles. Lunch at the Daintree Village Hotel and a tour of Daintree are also included on this excursion.

We are going to fly to Sydney today. Sydney is Australia's biggest and most talked about city, and the home of so many iconic landmarks. The centre is surprisingly compact and can be easily explored on foot.

Our included sightseeing tour will show you Sydney's highlights, including the world-famous Harbour Bridge and Opera House, which dominate the vast and picturesque harbour. Other memorable sights include Bondi Beach, Hyde Park, Darling Harbour and Mrs Macquarie's Chair.
After your tour, maybe opt to set off on an hour-long cruise around the harbour.

If you choose to join today's optional excursion, you've a full day of thrills ahead. Start at Featherdale Wildlife Park, which is home to more than 300 species of native animals, from koalas to Tasmanian devils.
You'll then head through the Blue Mountains, past the Three Sisters rock formation and along Jamieson Valley - Australia's answer to the Grand Canyon. Finally, you'll visit Scenic World, where you can opt to take a journey on the world's steepest incline railway into ancient rainforest or enjoy a cable-car ride over the valley.

You can choose from a couple of exciting optional excursions today. If you've a head for heights, you could take in exceptional views of Sydney Harbour and the surrounding area on a guided Sydney Harbour Bridge climb. Don't worry, you'll get a safety briefing beforehand and will wear a harness at all times. At the end you'll receive a group photo, a cap, certificate and a pass to the Pylon Lookout for further sweeping views.
Alternatively, you may choose to view Sydney from even higher up, on a panoramic helicopter ride. Remember to take your camera along and snap shots of Bondi Beach, Botany Bay, Sydney Harbour and Opera House, and much more, as you listen to your pilot's informative commentary through headphones.

Canberra is a beautifully landscaped city. The peaceful tree-lined avenues and uncrowded centre make it hard to believe that this is the Australian capital. Visit the government buildings and get a glimpse of the Prime Minister's Lodge on our tour today. En route, we will stop at a sheep station for a sheep shearing demonstration and a barbecue lunch.

Colonial-style buildings, beautiful parks, wealthy garden suburbs, wide boulevards and trams make Melbourne the most European of Australia's cities. It has a sophisticated, more formal atmosphere yet is also the sports capital of the country. It's the home of Australian Rules Football, the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Melbourne Cup.
Our included sightseeing tour on day 18 gives a great overview of the city including Fitzroy Gardens where you will catch a glimpse of Captain Cook's cottage.
Explore Melbourne at leisure on day 19. You could head to the Botanical Gardens with their unrivalled view of the skyline or perhaps take a tram to the seaside resort of St Kilda with its laid-back beaches and quirky shops. An optional afternoon visit to Philip Island, where you can see the remarkable Penguin Parade, will also be available.

Your final day is free for you to explore more of Melbourne at your own pace. Alternatively, why not take an optional trip to Ballarat, famous for the Gold Rush of 1851. You'll also visit Sovereign Hill open-air museum, which recreates the first decade after the discovery of gold here, and take a tour of the gold mines. There will be time for a stroll around the town and to visit the Gold Museum before we head back to our hotel.
This evening we will gather as a group to enjoy a five-course farewell dinner in The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant, a famous fleet of historic trams that now act as sumptuous dining venues.

Enjoy time at leisure on day 21 before your return flight to the UK, arriving on day 22.

Why solo travelling to Australia is the trip of a lifetime

Travelling to the other side of the world alone would be daunting for anyone, but Just You Tour Manager, Sarah Wrightson explains why you should take the plunge and book that trip

Australia is such a special country, with such diverse flora and fauna. You’ll see iconic creatures such as the koala and kangaroo and so much colourful birdlife. Then there’s the changing landscapes, from the sandy yellow hues of Western Australia and the rusty reds of the central Australian desert to the lush greens of the rainforests of the tropical north. It’s all truly amazing.

My favourite moments

There are so many wonderful moments on a tour here. My favourites include watching kangaroo grazing in the early morning, the view of Sydney Harbour and snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, and with any luck, swimming alongside a turtle. Watching the little penguins waddling up the beach to their dunes on Philip Island, is also delightful.

Step back and take it all in

My favourite city has to be Sydney, what a beautiful sight as you come into land, and it doesn’t disappoint as you wander around. Just find a high viewpoint and take it all in. Something I always tell my guests is to take a moment to themselves from time to time on the tour to step back and just enjoy. Your special moment could be something iconic or it could be watching a butterfly landing on a flower in front of you, or looking at the clear night sky and seeing the Milky Way. You’ve probably dreamed about visiting Australia for many years, so it’s important to make the most of it!
