Having travelled for years with my siblings, I decided to start going on holidays on my own after purchasing my own property. I had no idea where to start, so I searched for ‘holidays for solo travellers‘ on the Internet and Just You came up. I saw that Jordan was one of the destinations on offer and since I always wanted to see Petra (after seeing it on TV!); I decided to book then and there before I got ‘cold feet’.
Of course, I was a bit nervous and apprehensive to start with. But these all disappeared as soon as I arrived at the airport. There was a Just You representative to help you check-in and you soon met your fellow travellers either at check-in or in the lounge. A Tour Manager is with you throughout the holiday – they either travel with the group or meet you at the destination depending on where you travel.
You do not have to worry about anything at all as everything is taken care of from start to finish. All you do is sit back, relax and enjoy yourself. You travel with a group of people with a varied age range and life experiences. There is no pressure on you – you can either stay with the group and join in all the included and optional excursions or do what you want to. I had such a good experience that I booked my next trip on my return.
Since then I have travelled to Andalucía, Costa de la Luz, Israel, Italian Dolomites and Croatia, Calabria, Istanbul/Troy/Ephesus, Marrakech for Christmas and Namibia.
I went to Lille & Bruges for the weekend (Battlefields Special Departure) in September and then to Kerala in India. I already have two trips booked for next year: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and South Africa with Zambia add-on. I have a long list of places I want to see – Costa Rica and Nicaragua, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, China, Sri Lanka, Burma, Iceland, Peru, Tibet, Brazil, Cuba, Alaska etc. In fact the list keeps on getting longer as new holidays are added to the brochure!
My advice to someone who is thinking about travelling solo for the first time is go for it.
Travelling with Just You is a pleasure, there is nothing to worry about and you will have lots of fun along the way. In fact, there is just one warning – travelling with Just You is addictive!
I am a fan of the Just You Online Community. The online Community is used by lots of people, some wanting advice before they book their first trip, some wanting to get to know their fellow travellers, who the Tour Manager will be, how many people travelling and the age range. I like to read the reviews of holidays as it gives you a flavour of what to expect. In fact, I decided to go to Calabria and South Africa/Zambia after reading the reviews. I am also planning the ‘Silk Road to Samarkand’ trip in the near future after reading reviews about this trip. I too have started writing reviews of my Just You holidays. Sometimes people will go ahead and book a trip after reading your replies to their questions.
