Our luggage allowance then with Air China was 30 Kgs to and from China But all internal flights in China it went down to 20kgs. I packed a smaller bag to be used for two nights in Chengde. In Beijing we had a secure room at the hotel and where able to leave anything ie presents in there and anything not needed in Xian as on the return by road from Chengde to Beijing we went straight to the airport and in an area there our suitcases where waiting for us we unpacked our bags into the cases folded the bag up put it also into the case .. Remember the weight internal flights is 20 kgs anything you dont need in Xian was left at the hotel our guide sorted this for us. On return to Beijing you are taken back to the hotel with your suitcase and are reunited with anything you had left. Hope this is of some help.
Please dont worry it will all work out and you will all have a holiday of a lifetime..
Lillie.
Thanks for the information Lillie, that's really useful.

Hello Bourkie/Lillie
After reading your message, am I correct in thinking that after returning from Chengde, you are able to unpack your holdall or overnight bag, and then you can take your suitcase with you to Xian. I do hope so as I do not want to do another overnight bag. Any help would be appreciated, as this post is now getting confusing
Regards & thanks
Clive

Hello Clive and everyone, yes when you leave Chengde by road you are taken straight to Beijing airport. When I went our suitcases where waiting for us in an area of the airport and we where then able to unpack our clothes etc and bag into our suitcase then went to check in for our flight to Xian. When you fly back from Xian to Beijing we where taken back to the hotel which we stayed in at the start of the holiday and where reunited with anything we had left in the secure room. We repacked suitcases ready for the journey home the next morning
Hope that this helps. You will have a holiday of a lifetime especially the train journey and the trolley dollies!!.

I am now completly confused, I understood your first reply, but your second reply implies that we cannot take our suitcases to Xian and that we will have to repack our overnight bags with fresh clothes? Maybe this is why we need the black bin liners! Please elucidate.

Dave
Huh
Hi I'm also totally confused about the luggage ,but I'm sure it will all work out when we get there ,it will probably be explained when we get our final pack .it can't be as bad as it sounds .Noreen

RE: Wonders of China-12th September- Chengde and Xian
As you are in Chande for only two days, you can easily pack what you need into a standard cabin bag.
As lillie stated, you should remove items that you don't want to drag to Xian (presents dirty linin etc) to Xian, but leave them in the hotel at Beijing for storage.
my advise to you is wait until you get to Xian and go to the Muslim quarter street market before you buy any presents.
Far cheaper and really fun when you haggle
(I often got prices down to a third)
Chengde is fantastic, you really need to get up early and join the locals on the river front, they are all so friendly.

Hi
with this transfer, what about our sponge bags, some of the contents are liquid so packed in the hold luggage, if having to put in hand luggage is it the same as England, no liquids only upto 100ml?
