RE: Hello & Halkidiki
Hi Trevor,
I've recently returned from Halkidiki and there were 40 of us on this trip - my first one abroad with Just You. We were upgraded to the Merliton hotel and it was really lovely. Very clean, food good, company great! The evening entertainment was quite limited as we went slightly "out of season" - bingo and quiz nights was the order of the day! However, I went for a holiday and to meet and enjoy "friends I hadn't yet met" and that's exactly what I got. I'm now due to go to Canada and Alaska in September and am really looking forward to that one now, with no great worries, as if the people on that holiday are half as nice as the ones I've just met, then I'll have a great time - go for it and enjoy! Take care Anne |

RE: Hello & Halkidiki
Hi Trevor,
Its my first time to Halkidiki, although I have been with JU many times before, and have enjoyed all the holidays with them. You don't say when you are going to Halkidiki? Im going at the same time as Dawn on the 26th September, so if you are going then I am looking forward to meeting you. I was told that this holiday hotel is the Sithonia Thallasotherapy & Spa Hotel in that area, and it looks very nice from their website. Take the plunge, I can assure you that you will not regret it. RE: Hello & Halkidiki
Hi Sue,
The Sithonia Hotel is the sister hotel to the one we stayed in and it was in the final stages of being done up when we were there, and people were just starting to arrive towards the end of our stay. As Shirley says, there is a casino and also a disco in that one, so the entertainment should be more varied than in the Meliton. The beach is mostly shingle type, so I would take some beach-type sandals to wear to protect your feet. The beach bar was good - all drinks were free at the beach bar and in the hotel, so no worries there! We had great weather - it was up to 29degrees on the Saturday! Lovely! There are also the usual beach entertainment crew who will organise beach and poolside games for you take part in if you wish - they're good fun! There's also a little boat service which takes you into Neo Marmaris, the local village - the shops close in the afternoon, so go either morning or evening, and the boat leaves the resort on the hour and comes back on the half hour. If you're a tea drinker, I would take some of your own teabags with you as we couldn't get normal "breakfast tea" till about the Thursday! So, relax, go for it, and enjoy! Take care Anne |

RE: Hello & Halkidiki
Hi Sue,
It's me again - I should have said that Halkidiki is the name of the area and Sithonia is one of the 3 penninsula regions (the middle one of the 3, if you look on map of the area). There were trips out to various places on most days that you can go on - I went to Thessaloniki on the Saturday, but to be honest it was just another city to me, and very expensive too! From what I took from the others who went on some of the other trips, they were good and showed you more of the villages and people - but I suppose it depends on what you like doing. Most of the day trips had you back at the hotel for 5pm - still time to sunbathe and get changed for dinner etc! Hope that answers your query about Halkidiki! If your tour guide is Lorenza, then you'll find that she's a very kind, caring person. Take care Anne |

RE: Hello & Halkidiki
Thanks Anne and Shirley for all your comments, very useful. I do hope the Sithonia Thallasotherapy & Spa Hotel will be ready when I go in September. Just one thing I would like to check with you both. In the brochure it says that the distance from the airport to the hotel is 30 mins, I was told by someone else that it is over an hour, (from someone who lives there). Can you tell me how long it took? I do hope that the weather is fine in late September as I have been told its pot luck. Could be boiling hot or rainy. Is the casino and disco actually in the Sithonia Hotel? If it rains a lot I think that is where I will be. Glad to know that there is entertainment and free drinks. Will definitely take tea bags.
