Lisa,TM - Italy's Cilento Coast - May/June 2012

Apologies for butting in on this Lisa. I was there last year and there are no cups or cutlery in the room but I'm sure the nice barman ( if he is still there, but ALL the staff are great!) would be happy to loan. There was in my room on top of the mini bar/fridge a bottle top opener (lol). Incidentally we were advised not to drink the tap water whilst we were there. Bottled water is always available at the bar (you have cards for your bar bill and then pay up at the end of the holiday), and for basic basics there is a very small supermarket in the village, literally 5 minutes walk away opposite the church. Nice people with a very small amount of English. Sure they would have bottled milk there.

The TV's in the room didn't have English channels last year, but CNN was available in the bar area. There was also a very small amount of paperback books which I suppose you could borrow near the reception. I left mine there when I left!

I went right at the beginning of May and took insect repellent with me, but didn't need it as it was rather cool at the beginning of the holiday. Quite a lot of vegetation in the hotel corridors. You will see!

So glad to hear you loved the Cilentro Coast... I love it as well, not yet "too touristic"... of course, as you say, not everyone speaks a lot of english... It's another "corner" of Italy that has yet to be discovered by many... I live in northern Italy - every region is so different.

Thanks Lisa. It was a really hard decision and I was really tempted to go back, but I have decided to return to Croatia, somewhere where I haven't been since the mid 80's. I fly out on 1st May.

I do love Italy though. I have a friend who lives in Milan, and I usually go over once a year or so to stay with her or down to her parents place on the Italian Rivera. I've been to Sorrento many times too and also to Sicily.

Yes, I hear from almost everyone that they were v. nervous the first time around.... good for you for booking the holiday! No need to worry, can see you are ready to make friends and enjoy yourself. Is it your first time in Italy?

Be on the look out for other "JY" luggage tags at the airport and put one on your hand luggage so others can identify you as well. Don't be shy - introduce yourself if you run into a fellow traveller.. they will be glad you did!

As I live in Italy and will already be in resort, I won't be flying with the group, but you'll be well looked after by one of our airport reps - they are really helpful.

Looking forward to meeting you - see you in "il bel paese"!

Hi Lisa, Never been to a hotel with its own beach before. What's the protocol, I am presuming we need our own towel to take to the beach and that the hotel towels are just for the bathroom. Is that correct? Anything else we should know about the beach area?

I'm booked on this holiday on 13 May and really looking forward to it. The hotel and surrounding area sound great from previous visitors' reports. It will be my second visit to Italy (last time Venice ) and first time with JY. Especially want to see Ravello and get some good photos. Thanks for the tip re a kettle.

Hi Clare,
The hotel provides towels for the pool and the beach... some people like to pack a lightweight "pareo" - a multiple use "wrap" that can be a towel, cover-up, etc... you can find them everywhere inexpensively.
Hope this helps... the hotel's beach is lovely - I know you will enjoy your holiday..

Sorry for the late response... busy with tours and internet problems in my little italian backwater!
Just wanted to welcome you aboard to JY! If you're looking for great photos - they're everywhere, but you are correct about Ravello... many postcards are photographed from there!
