Discover more of this delightful coastal region of Bulgaria on our exciting excursion programme.
The following excursion is included:
Nessebar - Set on a picturesque peninsula, the lovely old town of Nessebar dates back over 9,000 years and is often called the ‘Pearl of the Balkans’. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there are many medieval churches scattered across the town that are a delight to explore. Stroll around the narrow cobblestone lanes and tiny squares, take time to admire the lovely flower gardens, browse in the gift shops and enjoy a refreshing drink at a charming tavern, before returning to the hotel.
The following excursions are optional:
Sozopol & Ropotamo River - Our full day begins with a tour of Sozopol, one of Bulgaria’s oldest towns, founded by the Greeks in 610 BC. There are two wonderful beaches in the town, which are perfect for a spot of relaxation, or why not take a wander around the old town’s twisting, narrow cobblestone lanes to the picturesque harbour. We enjoy an included lunch in the Windmill restaurant by the beach, and later we head to the Ropotamo River for a leisurely scenic cruise. The river rises near the village of Bosna and almost immediately turns from fresh water to salt water. A cruise along the Ropotamo River is a little like sailing through a fascinating equatorial forest, it’s an area of outstanding natural beauty that’s a haven for birds and plantlife. The final stop of the day is in the lively city of Burgas, with its delightful mix of 19th and early 20th century architecture..
Wine tasting in Pomorie - Join us on this half day excursion to the pretty seaside town of Pomorie, where we visit St. George’s Monastery, which was established by the Greeks in the 7th century. Today’s church stands on the original foundations and is home to an impressive collection of icons from the 1700 and 1800s. You will also visit Château Medovo, where the Handicrafts Street is lined by artisans using techniques from the middle ages to produce pottery, silverware, textiles, woodwork and more. The highlight of the Château is its winery and cellar, where we enjoy a guided wine tasting.
Enjoy a farewell get-together on the final evening.
